Renewing Your AEWV Employer Accreditation: A Comprehensive Guide
Renewing your Accredited Employer Work Visa (AEWV) accreditation is crucial for continuing to employ migrant workers. At Surani Associates, we're here to guide you through this important process, ensuring you maintain your ability to hire and support AEWV holders.
Understanding Accreditation Renewal
Initial Accreditation Period
Your first accreditation is valid for 12 months. It's essential to renew before this period ends to avoid expiration.
Renewal Periods
Upon renewal, your accreditation validity changes:
Standard and High-Volume Accreditation: 24 months
Franchisee and Controlling Third Party Accreditation: 12 months
Any accreditation renewed after a 12+ month lapse: 12 months
When to Renew Your Accreditation
You should renew if you want to:
Employ new AEWV workers
Change your accreditation type
Support AEWV holders applying for visa extensions or changes
Support applications for other visas requiring accreditation (e.g., Work to Residence, Skilled Migrant Category)
Consequences of Not Renewing
If you don't renew:
Your accreditation expires automatically
You can't apply for new Job Checks or hire new AEWV workers
Existing AEWV employees can work until their visas expire, but can't be supported for renewals
You can't support applications for certain other visa types
Timing Your Renewal
Recommended: Allow at least 6 weeks for the renewal process
Check current processing times on the Immigration NZ website
Your new accreditation period starts from the approval date, not the previous expiry date
Interim Accreditation
If your accreditation expires while awaiting renewal:
You may qualify for a 3-month interim accreditation
Must have applied before current accreditation expired
Allows you to continue some activities (e.g., apply for Job Checks, use existing job tokens)
Evidence to Provide
When renewing, provide evidence of:
Business viability and genuine operation
Compliance with business standards
Settlement support for AEWV employees
Key documents may include:
Financial records (e.g., GST, PAYE)
Proof of completed Employment NZ modules
Evidence of settlement support provided to AEWV holders
Organization charts
