Green List Resident Visa
As part of New Zealand’s immigration reform and border reopening, the government has introduced a Green List, which includes occupations in high demand. This list offers a streamlined pathway to residence for skilled migrants who meet the relevant criteria.
Benefits of the Green List
Migrants with skills in Green List occupations who have a job offer from an accredited New Zealand employer may be eligible for a Resident Visa, subject to meeting qualification, registration, and wage requirements.
The Green List covers a wide range of sectors, including:
Healthcare
Veterinary science
Engineering
Information and communication technology (ICT)
Education
Skilled trades
You can view the full Green List of occupations https://www.immigration.govt.nz/work/requirements-for-work-visas/green-list-occupations-qualifications-and-skills/green-list-roles-jobs-we-need-people-for-in-new-zealand/ .
Green List Pathways
There are two pathways available under the Green List:
1. Tier 1: Straight to Residence – Open Now
Eligibility:
If you have a job offer for a Tier 1 occupation and meet all qualification, registration, and wage requirements, you may apply directly for the Straight to Residence Visa. This option is ideal for individuals who already hold a qualifying job offer in a Tier 1 role.
2. Tier 2: Work to Residence – Open from 29 September 2023
Eligibility:
If your occupation is listed in Tier 2 and you meet the required criteria, you must also complete two years of relevant work experience in New Zealand on an eligible visa before applying for residence under the Work to Residence Visa pathway.
Update: More Trade Occupations Added
Ten new trade occupations have recently been added to the Green List, including:
Welders
Metal fabricators
Panel beaters
Vehicle painters
This update reflects New Zealand’s ongoing demand for skilled trades across industries such as construction, automotive, and manufacturing.
