Fee Paying Student Visas

The Fee Paying Student Visa allows you to study full-time in New Zealand. You'll need to pay the full cost of your courses and enroll with an approved education provider.

With a Student Visa you can:
  • Study full-time at the course stated on your visa, including schools, tertiary education, and English language study.

  • Work part-time up to 20 hours a week while studying or full-time during holidays, depending on your visa conditions.

  • Live independently if you meet the age requirements, or come with a parent or legal guardian if you are under the required age.

Things To Note:
  • Your partner or children can apply for visas based on their relationship to you if they wish to accompany you.

  • The length of your student visa usually matches the duration of your paid study. However, if your passport expires before the end of your study, the visa may be issued for a shorter period.

  • You can apply for this visa if you are a distance learning or correspondence student studying outside New Zealand and need to visit New Zealand for more than 3 months for practical study or exams.

  • Proficiency in English is not a requirement for the student visa application, but check with your education provider if it is needed for course enrollment.
